Manchester City and Manchester United will collide for the first time in the 2015-16 English Premier League season on Sunday at Old Trafford in England.

The two teams are showing why they are considered as favorites to top the league this season. Manchester United are coming off a 3-0 win against Everton, while Manchester City ran away with a dominating 5-1 victory against AFC Bournemouth in Week 9 of competition.

While both teams played well last week, Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal insisted that their rivals should be considered favorites heading into their highly anticipated match. The second-year Red Devils manager pointed out how Manchester City dominated their opponents in their victories based on their plus-16 goal difference.

"When you look at the facts, they are first and we are third," Van Gaal told reporters. "There is a goals difference, a points difference so they are the favorites, I think."

Manchester City are currently on top of the standings with 21 points after nine matches, while Manchester United are not far behind with 19 points, which is good for third place behind City and Arsenal.

A win for Manchester City will help them solidify their grip on the top spot. On the other hand, a win will give Manchester United a chance to move up on top depending on the result of Arsenal's game on Saturday.

Arsenal will go up against Everton on Saturday at Emirates Stadium, where a win could also help them overtake both Manchester City and Manchester United in the standings.

The Gunners are currently in second place behind Manchester City. Like Manchester United, Arsenal also have 19 points after nine matches, but they have a better goal difference.
