Jemma Simmons bonded with someone new in the "4722 Hours" episode of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." this third season.

Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) shared with Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) how she spent more than six and a half months in the other dimension, Comic Book noted. She also revealed that she discovered another human trapped there.

It's clear why executive producer Jeffrey Bell stayed mum about this specific episode, per a TV Line article.

"I'm very protective of this episode, and I just want people to show up and experience it with Simmons. Something happened, she wants to tell that story to Fitz," Bell said.

Simmons' challenges

True enough, the audience really got to experience how Simmons survived in the different world. It explained vividly why the young scientist had a post-traumatic stress disorder, as revealed by Henstridge on Entertainment Weekly.

The fifth episode showed how the gifted biochemist initially reacted after being transported by the Kree monolith that swallowed her. She tried to go back to Earth trough the portal. When she found out it was closed, she still remained strong. Her innate character as a scientist shone through while she reported her observations about the place. She noted that the planet, which has a stronger pull of gravity than the Earth's, can actually support life as it has oxygen.

She was able to stay alive by drinking water from a small pond of water and eating the tentacles of an alien creature inside it. Simmons also constantly remembered Fitz and even said goodnight to his picture on her phone before sleeping. It was his deep friendship with Fitz that also made her go on because, in her heart, she believes that Fitz won't quit.

Later on, she also found out that she was not the lone survivor in the said place. There's also a NASA astronaut, Will (Dillon Casey), who landed on the blue planet in 2001. He originally had some members of his team with him, but there's something in this mysterious world that led the others to commit suicide or do horrific acts. Will dubbed this thing "it."

She was fed by Will, who became her friend. In one special moment, they also shared a kiss. During her rescue, Will was not able to go into the portal with her because he tried to save her from a hooded creature living in the planet.

Fitz' selfless act

In the end, Fitz agreed to help her get back at the portal to rescue Will. It is a very selfless act, indicating her love for Simmons is just immense.

Can they rescue Will?
