The Baltimore Ravens won for the second time this season against the San Diego Chargers at 29-26, but the Ravens considered it as a bittersweet victory as their wide receiver Steve Smith got a torn Achilles injury. Smith will be out of the game for the whole season.

The game was victorious with the best efforts of all the team members, including Smith. However, most of the team had their heads downafter the game as one of their best team players, Smith, was deeply injured and might finally end his bright career with the National Football League (NFL).

Baltimore Sun reported that Smith injured his right leg as he was in a 17-yard completion by the end of the third quarter at Sunday's game. Apparently, Smith had to be assisted off the field towards the team's locker room because of the hard-hit injury.

His teammates, as well as Ravens coach John Harbaugh, were devastated but hopeful about their injured wide receiver. "I have a feeling Steve Smith will be back," Harbaugh said post-game as quoted by the Bleacher Report. "I love him, respect him, admire him. I told him that. That's the kind of man he is and he'll be back."

Meanwhile, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco spoke to Baltimore Sun of his teammate, saying, "As a player, it's tough to get caught up in that at the moment. But at this point, you want to see your brother in there, in the locker room and all that. It's going to be an emotional thing just to lose players like that at any point. I'm not afraid to say when you have a guy like that, what he means to this team, this organization, myself."

Apparently, according to Bleacher Report, it was not the first time that the 36-year-old wide receiver got injured. Last month, Smith suffered a back injury during their game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, which resulted in him missing one game after the incident.

Not only that, the recent injury occurred after Smith previously announced that he would be retiring soon. Before the season began in August, Smith said as quoted by CBS Sports, "I feel like it's time. If it's the end, I feel like it's the best place for it to end."

"All my chips are on the table," he added. However, it seemed like Smith experienced a sudden momentum since he already passed hall of famer Cris Carter for the 10th on the all-time NFL receiving yards, according to Bleacher Report's recent Twitter post.

There are no further updates regarding Smith's health condition as of the moment.
