ABC's "The View" has been in the heat of controversy lately in light of their previous episode with former child star and current co-host for the show, Raven Symone, being under a huge ongoing petition to be removed from the show after her comments regarding a student-police officer incident.

The video was shown in the recent episode of the show, where a female African-American student in South Carolina was tackled by a police officer, who politely requested the student to put her phone away, and, after a few instances, the student still refused, causing the violent incident.

Apparently, in the show which aired last week, Symone was airing her usual strong opinions regarding the incident where she said, "There's no right or reason for him to be doing this type of harm — that's ridiculous — but at the same time, you gotta follow the rules in school. First of all, why are there cellphones in school? This shouldn't even be a problem to begin with, and he shouldn't have been acting like that on top of it," Symone said as quoted by Us Magazine.

Not only that, Symone pointed out that the student should have abided by the rules in the institution. "You've got to follow the rules in school," she said, per The Star. "There's an issue with police officers in predominantly minority type of schools taking kids for disorderly conduct right to prison ... That is a problem," she added.

However, her comments, as well as some of her previous ones, were not appealing for some, which led to a petition for the former "That's So Raven" star to be removed from "The View." The petition currenty has 130,000 signatures.

The petition, which was posted online by a certain Che Scott-Heron, later recognized to be the daughter of performer Gil Scott-Heron, had a statement that reads: "African Americans and black people around the diaspora need a voice representative of their views and not a voice representative of what white people want us to say. We need strong black role models in prominent positions on televisions and Raven-Symone cannot provide that."

Meanwhile "The View" seemed to be backing their co-host in releasing a statement that Symone makes a great addition to the show, indirectly stating that they are one with Symone's role in the show despite the ongoing call for her removal.

"We love Raven," a network spokesperson said as quoted by People. "She is confident, genuine and opinionated, all qualities that make her a great addition to the panel."
