Microsoft is finally catching up to its tablet competition when it comes to 4G LTE.

The company pulled the tarp off the Surface 2 tablet that will feature 4G LTE and now many have praised the company for taking one more step towards aligning itself with Apple's dominant iPad. The iPad has had mobile broadband support for nearly a half decade, making Microsoft's move seem less revolutionary -- moreso related to just trying to catch up.

This big change, however, is one of the only significant changes that we will be seeing with the newest Surface tablet, according to Lance Ulanoff at Mashable. The size is relatively the same while many people will probably be turned off by the fact that it indeed weights heavier than its predecessor.

The good news is that the new 4G LTE feature opens more doors than initially imagined for its customers.

"Even though Microsoft selected AT&T as its 4G launch partner, the Surface 2 is actually unlocked and is capable of accepting any micro-SIM on 2G GSM, 3G UMTS and 4G LTE networks," Ulanoff said. "Microsoft claims the new broadband radio does not impact battery life, which was previously rated at 10 hours of video playback."

The tablet went on sale this week for the first time, and a number of reviews are already starting to make their way around the tech world. The general consensus largely seems to echo Ulanoff's sentiments in that the tablet was by no means revolutionized yet Microsoft addressed one of the more important aspects of the tablet in a way that helps it gain ground against its competition.
