In the preview for Friday's Episode 6 of "Reign," titled "Fight of Flight," Mary (Adelaide Kane) is still coming to terms with her grief, but she must carry on as new challenges arise.

According to the episode's synopsis, Mary realizes she has to help Catherine (Megan Follows) in her quest to become regent, even though it will likely hurt the alliance with Scotland. It was her husband's last wish that Mary remain in France until his mother attained her goal in order to assure the future of the next king.

Last week's episode no doubt tore at the heartstrings of many viewers, when beloved King Francis (Toby Regbo) finally met his demise.

The death was a mighty blow to the fandom, particularly as it came on the heels of Francis' surprising resurrection at the hands of witch Delphine (Alexandra Ordolis).

Mary didn't seem too distraught by the news that her ritual had claimed her ill mother, Marie de Guise (Amy Brenneman), in Francis' place. Someone should have told Mary about the cost of dabbling in dark magic, though. It never ends up well.

An Entertainment Weekly interview with showrunner Laurie McCarthy provided some hints to what fans can expect to see in the aftermath of the king's death.

"[His death] shifts the power dynamic at court between Narcisse (Craig Parker) and Catherine. There's going to be a huge battle for the regency coming up and a blossoming relationship between she and Narcisse because his ambition is going to be awakened again," McCarthy said.

The loss also opens the door for the developing rivalry between Queen Elizabeth (Rachel Skarsten) and Mary. In the promo, Elizabeth entertains the idea of grabbing control of Scotland and taking down the widowed Queen of Scots.

"[Francis' death] makes Mary more of a threat to Elizabeth because the question becomes who is she going to marry next and because she has to make a political marriage, will it be something that puts Elizabeth in even more jeopardy?" McCarthy added.

Reign airs on Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on The CW. Watch the trailer below!
