The mass-migration of broadcast TV shows to the streaming spectrum is getting even wider now with the current incarnation of a TV reboot for "Lost in Space" coming exclusively to Netflix.

According to Deadline, the original series that started way back in 1965 and has since become a cult-classic for sci-fi fans is getting an update on the streaming video-buffet platform.

The series will revisit the theme of the original, which was about the Robinson family, who were sent on a 5 ½-year journey to a planet for human colonization. But their mission was sabotaged from the inside causing their ship, and ultimately their future, to veer off course. That essentially caused them to get "Lost in Space," thus forming the series title.

It will be serialized much like the original series with the family encountering seemingly insurmountable odds trying to survive against alien species and other dangers that they come across in their mission to in some way find a course for home.

This is not the first time the franchise has attempted a reboot for TV. Back in the late '90s, current executive producer for the series Kevin Burns tried to get the project off the ground at NBC, but it failed to launch. As time went by, they did land a pilot at the WB following a fierce bidding war, but it never materialized into a series.

In the feature film arena, a remake of the show was made in 1998 that was written by Akiva Goldsman and directed by Stephen Hopkins. It saw a modest amount of success on the big screen, but that is the last fans heard from the franchise.

In the new series, Netflix landed the project after a bidding war and the producers were eyeing a straight to series commitment.

There has been no word yet as to when production for the series will start or when it will premiere on Netflix.
