The wait is finally over, as The CW has revealed the trailer for "Legends of Tomorrow."

The first trailer for the DC show reveals that the series takes place in 2166, and the world is under attack. As a result, eight heroes must fight against an evil enemy to save the world.

Each character is introduced with footage to showcase his or her unique powers. The eight heroes who will be featured in the upcoming show include The Atom, White Canary, Heat Wave and Captain Cold, Firestorm, Hawkman and Hawkgirl.

The trailer also shows time traveling, a concept that was introduced in another DC show, "The Flash." The trailer also shows off stunning visual effects and incredible action sequences.

Because the show takes place in the future, the time-traveling rogue Rip Hunter plays a crucial part in the show. In the trailer, the character hints at what happened to the Justice League, and why the Legends of Tomorrow are so crucial to save the world.

"I've seen Men of Steel die and Dark Knights fall. Your entire 21st century world will suffer," Rip Hunter says.

"Legends of Tomorrow" was green lit by The CW last year after the success of "The Flash" and "Arrow." Many of the characters for the new show have already been introduced in those shows, and it is expected that all three will crossover.

There are no plans for any of the heroes to become part of the upcoming Warner Bros. films set in the DC Universe, but it may be possible to see a link between these DC series and the movies. After all, Marvel has done it with its movies and its TV series.

The new show stars Victor Garber, Brandon Routh, Franz Drameh, Arthur Darvill, Dominic Purcell, Caity Lotz and Wentworth Miller. The show premieres on Jan. 21, 2016 and is slated to air every Thursday.
