Amazon officially started promoting its upcoming Prime Air drone delivery service Sunday with a new advertisement featuring "Top Gear" star Jeremy Clarkson.

Amazon Prime Air will be able to deliver some packages, weighing up to five pounds in 30 minutes or less, NBC News reports.

In the video, a couple's daughter is angry to see her soccer cleats have been chewed up by the family dog. The mother does not panic and grabs her Amazon Kindle Fire tablet to solve the problem.

The mother is using a new feature called the Amazon Prime Air button that will allow customers to receive items in 30 minutes or less.

After the mother puts in the order for a new pair of cleats, the Amazon Prime Air drone is loaded with the box and takes off vertically from the Amazon warehouse.

The rectangular-shaped drone rises to almost 400 feet and then starts flying horizontally to its destination. The drone is capable of flying for 15 miles and safely drops the package off the destination.

The Prime Air delivery service alerts the mother that the drone is about to arrive and tells her to make sure the yard is clear. After agreeing that the yard is all clear, the drone makes its approach for landing.

The Prime Air drone scans the landing area to look for a safe spot to touch down. The drone makes a very brief landing, drops off the package and takes off again.

While in flight, the drones are capable of detecting obstacles with "sense and avoid" systems.

"It looks like science fiction, but it's real," Amazon said on its website. "One day, seeing Prime Air vehicles will be as normal as seeing mail trucks on the road."

In Amazon's video the words "actual flight footage, not simulated" are displayed in the corner while the drone is shown making the delivery.

It is unknown when Amazon will officially begin Prime Air deliveries, but the company wants to ensure safety and full regulatory support, according to Popular Science.
