Marvel hires new movie writer to "lighten up" the story of the "Thor 3: Ragnarok."

Stephany Folsom will now be the new scriptwriter for the third installment of the "Thor" movie franchise, The Hollywood Reporter informed.

The site noted that this decision came right after Marvel tasked Taika Waititi to helm the said movie project. Waititi is famous for "What We Do In the Shadows," a spoof on the vampire genre.

Thus, if the production company feels the need to include Folsom to complement with Waititi's style, "Thor 3: Ragnarok" may really have a dark story for the two to try their best to lighten it up, commented Screen Rant.

Know More About Folsom

Turning a dark story into something "light" may not be a problem for Folsom as she is interested in plots where characters are placed in "crazy circumstances" as well as dark comedies, per her interview on Go Into the Story.

"When you go into a meeting with producers or executives, they always ask, 'What's your favorite movie?' I try to hone in my range a little bit to more with them, but I'm drawn to interesting characters in extraordinary circumstances," Folsom said.

"I love dark comedies. I think that's where the John Hughes and the Kurt Vonnegut of all of it comes in. But I also love drama. I like extreme pathos, and that's where Renoir fits in. I also love Hitchcock. I love thrillers and science fiction. To me, it's ultimately about the characters, and the crazy circumstances you can you put them in to play out the drama," the female writer added.

Her interest in dark comedies will be her advantage to make the third movie more comfortable to watch for the younger audience. They may have been accustomed to "Thor" and "Thor: The Dark World," which are "some of the lightest and comedic films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe" per Screen Rant's description. Furthermore, a big jump to a heavy script could alienate "Thor's" loyal audience.

Folsom, who grew up in Colorado Springs, is a self-confessed movie fan. She shared that when she was young, she would watch movies "all the time."

She is famed for her work on "1969: A Space Odyssey or How Kubrick Learned to Stop Worrying and Land on the Moon." It is a fictional story about a publicist who urged movie producer Stanley Kubrick to fake the moon landing, just "in case Armstrong and Aldrin fail" because of a NASA troubled Apollo program, noted the site.

Watch her contribution on "Thor 3: Ragnarok" in 2017. It is slated to release on July 28, 2017, per Screen Rant.
