New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio is spearheading a coalition of mayors and leaders across the country in petitioning the Supreme Court to greenlight President Barack Obama's executive action on immigration.


Melissa Mark-Viverito has boosted a flagship program, which seeks to provide representation and identification to undocumented people, and she has helped to foster the NYC municipal ID program.


The New York City Council on Thursday approved the use of municipal identification cards for undocumented immigrants in a substantial victory for city immigrant rights groups. The program will extend city services to an estimated 500,000 immigrants, regardless of citizenship status, thereby expanding access to services for undocumented immigrants.


The Spanish-language rappers that make up the duo Calle 13 -- frontman René Pérez Joglar and his brother Eduardo Cabra -- will be honored in New York City Thursday for their social activism and commentary on injustice, inequality and Puerto Rican issues, BuzzFeed reported.


Stop-and-frisk is the long endured practice whereby police officers in New York City have stopped and questioned hundreds of thousands of pedestrians, particularly African-Americans and Latinos;The program functions as sanctioned racial profiling and permitted discrimination.
