South Korean-based automaker Hyundai announced Wednesday that its Blue Link app for smartwatches is available.

Owners of the 2015 Genesis, Sonata, Azera and other Hyundai vehicle models equipped with the Blue Link system can now lock, unlock and remote start their cars by voice command.

The Android Wear app is another impressive advancement in the automaker's Blue Link system that allows car owners to monitor and control their cars remotely. Hyundai drivers got a sneak peek at the Blue Link Android app at the company's CES booth on Jan. 5.

"Blue Link subscribers and gadget lovers will appreciate a more convenient way to interact with their Hyundai vehicles," said Frank Ferrara, executive vice president, customer satisfaction, Hyundai Motor America. "Now you can remote start your car with your smartphone, smartwatch, laptop, desktop or tablet. It is like being James Bond 007 or Scotty in 'Star Trek.'"

Hyundai Blue Link Android App Functions

As noted in Hyundai's press release, the Blue Link features that users will have access to while wearing their Android Wear smartwatch include:

  •  Remote Engine Start / Stop
  •  Remote Flash Lights
  •  Remote Honk Horn
  •  Remote Door Lock / Unlock
  •  Call Roadside
  •  Car Finder
  •  Call Blue Link

How the Blue Link Android App Works

Hyundai car owners can enjoy all of the app's functions by using voice command on your Android Wear device. Functions are enabled by simply speaking in English "unlock my car" or "start my car." If voice command isn't desired, users can tap an icon on their smartphone or smartwatch display to activate whichever function is needed.

The Android Wear device requires that it be connected via Bluetooth to an Android smartphone running the Blue Link app.

The app will work with any Hyundai vehicle equipped with the next generation Blue Link system. Even vehicles introduced in 2012 with the system will be compatible with the smartwatch app.

The automaker says it is developing more Blue Link features, like maintenance alerts and the "Hyundai Assurance Car Care in-vehicle app" that comes with the 2016 Elantra GT and Veloster set to launch in late 2015.

The Hyundai Blue Link Android Wear app is available on Google Play.
