Vin Diesel has confirmed that there will be an eighth "Fast and Furious" film.

The star announced at Universal's CinemaCon panel that "Furious 8" will be released on April 14, 2017.

At the panel Diesel said, "It means a lot to me to get your blessing." The actor also recalled when Paul Walker and he announced the seventh installment back in 2013. He said, "We were giddy and excited. You all gave me so much confidence. There was so much love."

The announcement was made after Universal showed the final scene between Walker and Diesel. Diesel continued "You've been so loyal all along. You helped us create history here."

The rumor of an eighth has been floating for a month after producers met about the film. However, it seemed obvious, especially after the success of "Furious 7."

The movie has already hit $1.15 billion at the worldwide box office, making it No.7 on the list of highest-grossing films of all time. It has already hit the $300 million mark at the box office and will likely ends it run with $350 million. It is currently the highest grossing film of the year and is the highest grossing "Fast and Furious" film. The movie has also been the No. 1 film for three weekends and could end up winning a fourth.

"Furious 7" was almost cancelled after Walker's death as shooting was not complete when the crash happened. However, after reworking the script and using special effects technicians and stunt doubles, production was complete and Walker's character was included.

It will be interesting to see which characters return to the sequel and how the story will develop, especially since Walker will not be in the film. The last time Walker was not in the franchise was "Fast and Furious Tokyo Drift," which was a big failure critically and at the box office. It will be interesting to see how fans and audiences receive this eighth installment.
