In last week's "Wayward Pines" episode "Choices," Kate Hewson and her husband, Harold, were plotting something big. The couple wants to know what is beyond the fence surrounding the town.

Theresa Burke's work at the real estate office allowed her access to information about plot 33, an undeveloped piece of land in town. Peter, the man who was nearly "reckoned" for spray-painting a building and later committed suicide, had hinted that the land could be a "way out."

In "Choices," Ethan received a behind-the-scenes tour of town operations by David Pilcher/Dr. Jenkins. David told Ethan the human race mutated, which formed a new, violent human species known as Abbies. He had no choice but to "save" people by placing them asleep in cryo tubes and bringing them to Wayward Pines, a safe haven where the human race could flourish.

David said people in town cannot know the truth because the first inhabitants, labeled as "Group A," who were told either committed suicide or tried to escape and were eaten by Abbies. The current residents are "Group B," and he convinced Ethan it is best they don't know the truth.

We learned that David deliberately woke Ethan because Wayward Pines has become unstable due to a fraction whose goal is to destroy the fence to see what lies beyond it. Ethan is meant to be the town's stabilizing influence, David said.

Fans also learned through flashbacks that David and Nurse Pam are siblings, and that Pam is a recovering addict. Sheriff Pope began as a security guard who was recruited by David to be the law enforcement for Wayward Pines.

In the next episode of "Wayward Pines" titled "Betrayal," Ethan attempts to tell Theresa and Kate the truth about the town, but they don't believe him initially. He also discovers a bomb planted in his car -- could it be the bomb Kate and Harold had in the last episode? Are they upset that he is working with David Pilcher/Dr. Jenkins?

Meanwhile, Kate and Harold have a fertility consult with Nurse Pam, and Ben Burke and Amy's (guest star Sarah Jeffery) relationship heats up.
