Ben Affleck's allegedly sexist views may have caused problems in his marriage with Jennifer Garner.

The couple tried working things out while Garner balanced a demanding career while raising their three children together, People reports.

"He's like a '50s dad," a source says. "He thinks work is your priority and providing money for your family is your priority, and raising the kids day to day and making a nice house is the wife's priority."

Garner had trouble with taking care of 9-year-old Violet, 6-year-old Seraphina and 3-year-old Samuel alone while Affleck continued to be away from home.

"It leaves too much of the burden on Jen to be a mom and dad to the children when she also has a career," another source says. "Ben is a good dad when he is around, but he has so many outside interests and personal issues to get beyond."

Meanwhile, an additional source says Affleck tries his best with his children and that he does not have sexist views like rumors suggest.

"He works a lot, but it doesn't mean he doesn't go back to the kids. Those allegations that he chose work over her are not true," the source said

"He in no way thinks a women's place is in the home," the source added stating that Affleck has always supported Garner's career by pushing her to work. "She worked this summer while he was home," the source said.

In the past, Affleck has had failed relationships with other A-list celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez, People notes.

Things did not work out with him and Paltrow because he was not ready for a serious girlfriend at the time.

Then his later romance with Lopez failed when he left her just four days before they were supposed to be married. She still talks about how he broke her heart in some interviews.
