Undefeated boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. will officially face his 49th opponent, Andre Berto, on September 12.

Although there were rumors that "The Money" has finally picked Berto as his last challenger this fall in Las Vegas, it was only recently that the former two-time welterweight champion confirmed it, TMZ Sports reported.

"It's a pleasure and honor to be in this position and I'm looking forward to capitalizing on every moment of it," Berto told the site.

The outlet even reached out to Mayweather's camp, which likewise acknowledged that "it's a done deal and the two will fight in Vegas on September 12th."

Just last week, Berto opted not to divuldge too many details about the fight, although the way he talked about it hinted that he will most likely clash with Forbes' highest paid athlete of 2015.

Fighting with Mayweather in September is a big break for Berto for several reasons.

First, the unbeaten boxer has already told the media that he will be hanging his gloves for a final fight this September, although some boxing insiders are speculating that it may not be his last battle. Being chosen for the seasoned fighter's final appearances is already an honor for the Hatian-American.

Second, he will be given the chance to prove himself as a worthy opponent for Mayweather. If ever he becomes the first foe to defeat Mayweather - something the last of his 48 opponents failed to do, including the Filipino icon, Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao, the most recent fighter who bowed down to Mayweather last May 2 at the MGM Grand - he is set to greater heights.

Third, Mayweather will defend his World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association welterweight championship titles against Berto. Thus, the former International Boxing Federation and WBC titleholder will again bring himself back to a champion status if he beats Mayweather that night.

Amir Khan, the 50th Opponent?

British boxer Khan, who longed to be in Berto's shoes since 2013, feels that he could be Mayweather's 50th foe on the ring.

"I still think that fight can happen because I don't believe Floyd is going to retire after a fight like that [with Berto]. I still think that he will come back for one more fight and that could be me," Khan told the Mirror

Khan was ardently campaigning for a fight with "The Money" for two years, but he already felt that he may not be the one colliding with the undefeated boxer in September.

"I think the Mayweather-Berto fight is done. Berto is a friend of mine. He's won two of his last five fights. Mayweather says he wants an easy fight, so maybe that's the reason he's taken that fight... I can't see it being me. I've not had any phone calls from anyone. The last time I spoke to Al Haymon he said 'look, Floyd's still not made a decision. I'll get back to you' and he hasn't got back to me," Khan added.

It is expected that fans will hear good words from Khan concerning Berto as they have the same trainer, Virgil Hunter, and adviser, Al Haymon, who also is Mayweather's, Boxing Scene noted.
