World Boxing Council Silver welterweight title holder Amir Khan is confident that he will beat International Boxing Federation champion Kell Brook if they collide next year.

"It's a fight that everyone has wanted for years and years. It can potentially be one of the biggest fights in Britain. That's the reason I want the fight is to prove a point and give him a beating and put him in his place really, so then everyone in the UK knows who the best welterweight is," Khan told Sky Sports.

On The National, the Bolton, U.K. native confirmed in an interview that a match with Brook, which could take place at the Wembley Stadium, may happen soon enough since he's already in talks with promoter Eddie Hearn. But he clarified that before the fight could push through, Brook should clash with "big names" in boxing first.

Brook better than Khan?

Frankie Gavin, who bowed down to Brook in May, believes Brook will triumph over Khan. Gavin can very well gauge the strengths of both fighters because he had sparring sessions with Khan, another article of Sky Sports noted.

Gavin added that he is betting on Brook because he has great accuracy, compared to Khan.

"Amir is brilliant, he is fast, his speed is phenomenal. He's the fastest I have ever been in with, but he makes mistakes and he gets caught," Gavin assessed.

Khan calls Mayweather 'childish'

Meanwhile, Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally revealed why he did not pick the English boxer to be his 49th foe on Sept. 12, at the MGM Grand Arena.

"Once Amir Khan can get past Danny Garcia, then... you know, the fight would've happened," Mayweather told Showtime's Brian Custer, as quoted by Boxing Scene.

In 2012, the unbeaten Garcia crushed Khan with a 4th round stoppage in Las Vegas.

As always, Khan was ready to fire back at Mayweather's comments.

"I think he's just being a little childish and he knows that Amir Khan will give him a tough fight and he's kind of avoiding it. If he's not going to man up and fight me, then I'll have to fight Manny Pacquiao or someone like that. Someone who would fight me," Khan said on Sky Sports.
