Gennady Golovkin's trainer, Abel Sanchez, thinks Miguel Cotto will do everything to avoid a fight with the unbeaten Kazakh should "Junito" win against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez in November.

Sanchez isn't too fond of the Puerto Rican fighter so he'd rather set his eyes on the more important goal.

"If Cotto wins against Canelo, I don't think Cotto wants anything to do with Golovkin. I think he's running from Golovkin but it doesn't matter, we're not after Cotto, we're after the WBC belt," Sanchez told On the Ropes Boxing, as quoted by Boxing Scene.

But if the Mexican rising superstar wins, that's a different story. According to Sanchez, Canelo's promoter, Oscar De La Hoya of Golden Boy Promotions, is hungry to stage the "best fights," and that includes a possible Alvarez vs. Golovkin showdown.

"I think that Canelo himself being a young gun and having that Mexican following, he's not going to shy away from a tough fight," Sanchez added.

Cotto-Canelo showdown rematch clause issue

It appears the two camps have not yet ironed out the details of their upcoming fight. In a recent interview, De La Hoya stated that the "purse -split portion of the rematch clause" is delaying negotiations, Los Angeles Times reported. On the other hand, Cotto's adviser, Gaby Penagaricano, maintained there are still many points to be discussed and they will not be pressured to make a hasty decision.

But even with the recent tension with the two camps, WBC President Mauricio Sulaiman is "positive" that the fight will push through.

"Whenever there is a Puerto Rican and a Mexican in the ring or outside the ring it is going to be very heated. Oscar from Mexico and Miguel Cotto from Puerto Rico - they are going at each other right now (and that's) not even counting the fighter Canelo. When they meet in the ring it is going to be something for the ages," the WBC President said.

If the two camps agree on the rematch clause terms, will an immediate bout be sanctioned by the WBC? It's not guaranteed, especially since Sulaiman already announced via World Boxing News that Triple G will be the next man in line for whoever wins the Cotto-Canelo showdown.

"No, the winner must fight Gennady Golovkin then (after that) they can do whatever they want," Sulaiman said.
