There's so much at stake in the battle between two knock out masters and champions Gennady Golovkin and David Lemieux on Oct. 17, at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Aside from it being a unification fight between International Boxing Organization and World Boxing Association middleweight king "GGG" and International Boxing Federation titlist Lemieux, the winner is expected to face the victor of the Miguel Cotto vs. Saul "Canelo" Alvarez World Boxing Council middleweight title bout, reported Boxing Scene.

The Kazakh warrior's promoter, Tom Loeffler, has commended the Canadian boxer for being brave enough to face his ferocious fighter, who came out of a 6th round TKO win against Willie Monroe Jr. in California in May.

"Finally, someone... another champion is willing to get in the ring with Gennady Golovkin.I have to give David Lemieux a lot of credit for that," the managing director of K2 Promotions said, as quoted by Boxing Scene.

Perhaps the lure of having the chance to don four belts this year rather than one is enough motivation for Lemieux to challenge Golovkin's power. Although, posting an 86 percent knockout rate surely makes him not afraid of the undefeated "Triple G" who has knocked out 30 of his 33 opponents so far.

"I'm not scared of any fighter... For every guy there's a match and for Golovkin I am the match," Lemieux declared.

Lemieux, who triumphed over Hassan N'Dam via a unanimous decision in June, a victory which earned him the IBF title, has also fired back at Golovkin's trainer, Abel Sanchez, who predicted that "GGG" will defeat Lemieux via KO within four rounds.

"It's very immature on his behalf. It's not his fighter saying it and he's going to eat his words on October 17th. On October 17th, the clock stops and they're going to have to do some more planning after the fight because history shows whenever you speak too soon, things will catch up to you," the 26-year old fighter said.

But the Canadian fighter's own predictions may also be premature, according to Allan Fox of Boxing News 24. Fox noted that Golovkin has a height, reach and fitness advantage. Still, it will be safe for "GGG" to try to put down Lemieux within four rounds, as his trainer said he would, to secure victory. The longer he waits, he might be risking his two belts and the chance to face either Cotto or "Canelo" next year.
