One Direction have announced they will be going on hiatus for two years.

The English-Irish pop boy band's own Liam Payne dropped the bombshell news during an interview on BBC Radio 1's "Live Lounge," according to Mirror Online.

"Obviously we're all going to take a break for a little bit and consider where we are in the world," Payne said. "I just want to write songs, that's been the most fun process out of this, except for touring, has been the writing of the songs and we're going to come back so there's something to write for as well, for us and other people. We haven't really had time to write an album and whereas two years off..."

After fans learned the news, several took to Twitter to voice their disappointment.

The group has previously explained they desperately need time off to relax, due to their crazy schedule over the past five years.

"We've had five years of craziness. Now we all need to go away, become mad old recluses, then come back again with giant beards," group member Niall Horan said.

Earlier this year, the group lost bandmate Zayn Malik, who also broke up with his girlfriend Perrie Edwards, two big surprises for the band and the fans.

"It was hard. I think maybe for me the most. But he wanted to be happy and he wasn't," band member Louis Tomlinson said.

Before their temporary break, the group released their fifth studio album, "Made in the A.M.," which dropped on Friday. The album has already produced the singles "Drag Me Down" and "Perfect." This is the first album the band has made without Malik and the follow-up to their 2014 album, "Four," which produced the singles "Steal My Girl" and "Night Changes."
