ESPN announced the new duo that will serve as analysts for Sunday Night Baseball in 2016. Jessica Mendoza and Aaron Boone will join play-by-play announcer Dan Shulman and reporter Buster Olney to provide analysis and commentary on Major League Baseball.

ESPN made the announcement of the new analysts Wednesday, according to a statement from the network. The new team of four will make their debut on April 3, for ESPN's coverge of Opening Night, which is a World Series rematch between the New York Mets and Kansas City Royals.

Mendoza is a two-time Olympic medalist in softball, winning a gold medal in Athens in 2004 and a silver in Beijing in 2008. Mendoza also played collegiate softball at Stanford University.

Mendoza began working as a color analyst during the Women's College World Series. In the summer of 2014, she joined Baseball Tonight as an analyst.

The following year she made history by becoming the first woman to broadcast the College World Series on ESPN. She also became the first woman on ESPN to serve as an analyst during the Aug. 24 St. Louis and Arizona Diamondbacks game. Mendoza regularly appeared on Sunday Night Baseball shows during the late stages of the 2015 season.

Mendoza was a superb fill-in for suspended color commentator Curt Schilling during the Chicago Cubs and L.A. Dodgers game on Aug. 30 where Cubs' pitcher Jake Arrieta threw a no-hitter. Schilling was serving a suspension for inappropriate comments he made on Twitter.

Boone is a former MLB All-Star. He joined ESPN as a commentator in 2010 and has appeared on Sunday Night Baseball, Monday Night Baseball, Wednesday Baseball presented by Hankook Tire and Baseball Tonight. Boone has also served as a commentator for the World Series on ESPN Radio.

This is the 27th year for Sunday Night Baseball. It is the MLB's exclusive game of the week program.
