Tony Romo isn't the only member of the Dallas Cowboys getting back surgery. According to NFL.com, defensive end DeMarcus Lawrence "underwent a procedure on his back for an injury that bothered him throughout the 2015 season."

"We expect him to be back fairly soon. We'll see. We don't want to put it definitively, but we think he's going to be OK," head coach Jason Garrett said. The injury doesn't appear to be extremely serious, and Lawrence is expected to make a full recovery well before next season begins. Tyrone Crawford, another Cowboys defensive lineman, also had surgery this offseason. Crawford's injury required shoulder surgery.

Lawrence had a big foot issue his rookie season in 2014, which caused him to miss seven games, but he did not miss a single game this year. Lawrence was drafted No. 32 overall by the Cowboys in 2014 partly to replace DeMarcus Ware. Lawrence had a team-leading eight sacks this year for the Cowboys, but it appears as if Jerry Jones is ready to move from Greg Hardy. That means that even more responsibility will be out on Lawrence going forward. Lawrence also recorded the only safety for the Cowboys this year. He made 35 tackles for the Cowboys while Sean Lee led the team with 76.

Lawrence has proven to be a great draft pick.

Tony Romo missed the majority of the 2015 season, and Dez Bryant dealt with his fair share of injuries as well missing multiple games. Cowboys fans are hoping this injury doesn't result in a lingering effect for next season. Lawrence is scheduled to make $920,000 in base salary next season and then $1.17 million in 2017, which is the final year of his rookie contract. In all likelihood, the Cowboys will attempt to re-sign Lawrence after that 2017 season, but if injuries continue to be an issue, it could very well interrupt that process.
