During a recent appearence on "Despierta America," Niurka Marcos opened up about the abuse her first ex-husband inflicted upon her.

When Marcos gave birth to Kiko, her older son, her then-husband Federico wanted the surgeon to make a huge scar on her stomach, so that her career would be affected.

"She is not going to dance," he said, according to Marcos, La Opinion reported. "She won't do any more shows. She doesn't need to be taking care of herself, and my baby comes first."

Marcos explained that her now 23-year-old son didn't have an easy childhood. His father physically and verbally abused him, and he also saw his father physically attacking his mother, she said.

"One time in a room he choked me," Marcos said. "I felt like I was passing out, and Kiko was two meters away, playing on the floor. Another time, he put a gun to my head..."

Marcos felt that she had to send her son away to live with his grandmother. Her son must have been too young to understand the situation because he asked his mother why she was leaving without him.

She said this was such a painful experience, and she vowed it wouldn't happen again.

"After that very painful and frustrating experience, I was like a kangaroo with my children at all sides," she said. "I never again left my children with someone else."

Marcos added that being a mother has been her best role, and told other mothers that, despite difficult situations, you've got to show your children the positive side of things.

The actress and singer has been in the news lately talking about other people's issues, namely Ninel Conde. She's known to have a sharp tongue, so this is quite a different side to her that really gives insight into who she is.
