President Barack Obama has always been a symbol of change for generations of Americans. His career embodies the potential of the American dream and he has often spoken to graduating students about achieving their dreams. The President recently spoke at Rutgers University, offering up some nuggets of wisdom, while also emphasizing the importance of education and renouncing ignorance in the midst of the election season.

A few years ago, the President offered up some other nuggets of wisdom and advice on a Reddit AMA. Here is a look back at some of the most vital pieces of information from that opportunity the President offered users, particularly graduates stepping out into a tricky world.

Things don't happen overnight

For most recent graduates it is always a challenge looking for a job, paying student loans or in general becoming really successful. The steps toward success are different for everyone and there is no unique recipe or formula. However, it is important to strive for the what you want to do. As Obama noted for his plans, things don't happen overnight but as long as they work toward it, something will be accomplished.

Thinking through decisions

A President always has to make hard decisions and therefore they must be thought out thoroughly. There are a lot of positions that have to looked at before taking the final decisions. For example Obama's decision to send in troops to Afghanistan was one of his most difficult decisions because he knew that there would casualties. However, the decision was made to try and stop the taliban insurgents.

Being Thankful

For Obama it is crucial to always be grateful to those have helped you. The President is very aware that he was not able to get to the presidency without his supporters or the volunteers who worked for him. Without gratitude it is hard to accomplish anything.

Manage Time

Obama is one of the busiest person in the world having to not only manage a number of issues in the country but also manage global issues. He must travel all over the world and the country. However, the President must find time for his family. Obama notes that he tries to eat dinner with his family every time he is DC and tries to play basketball and golf every moment he can. He says it's important to balance your life with work.
