Byron Scott is one of the candidates for the Los Angeles Lakers coaching vacancy, and the veteran coach believes that he is the right man to handle the Lakers, who are aiming to get back to title contention next season.

In an interview with ESPNLA 710 Radio, Scott, who spent 10 seasons with the Lakers as a player, confidently said that he is a perfect fit to the Lakers, saying that he is very familiar with the team and has a good relationship with superstar guard Kobe Bryant.

"I don't feel I'm a very arrogant guy, but I feel like I am the perfect guy for this job," Scott said. "I got a great relationship with Kobe. I know the team, know the roster. I watched them all season long and I just think it would be a great fit."

Scott, who recently confirmed that he was interviewed by Lakers general manager Mitch Kupchak, added that the first thing that he will do if he lands the job is talk to Bryant to make sure that they are on the same page.

The 53-year-old coach, who guided Bryant during his rookie season with the Lakers, said that the 16-time All-Star will also have to change his game a little bit if he will be named as the team's next coach.

"We have to also talk about which type of direction we'll be taking and also talk about the type of game that he's going to be playing because he's going to have to change his game a little bit, and I think he knows that," Scott said. "We got to sit down and talk about the minutes and things like that. We just got to come to an agreement."

Scott, who has a career coaching record of 416-521 in 13 seasons, is coming off a disappointing three-year stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers but is being considered as one of the strongest candidates because of his previous success with the New Jersey Nets and New Orleans Hornets.

Scott led the Nets to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003 and also led the Hornets to their best season in franchise history in 2008, recording a 56-26 card.

Aside from Scott, Yahoo Sports recently reported that Mike Dunleavy Sr., who coached the Lakers from 1990 to 1992, was also interviewed by the team for the coaching vacancy.
