Rich Kids, an award-winning film, is an all-Latino cast that grabbed different recognitions and awards in various film festivals.

Just like anyone else, most dream to have a place of their own. Something that manifests wealth and abundance in life. A mansion, a pool, a private place, and a place where once can relax. This is what everyone dreams to have in their lives.

A new drama titled "Rich Kids",being streamed on Netflix, will bring its viewers to a world where teens try to forget their difficulties in life. This drama is about troubled teens who came from low-income families and communities who break into a local mansion and began pretending to be rich. 

The movie was produced by Laura Somers and she also wrote the script with David Saldana. As mentioned, this an all-Latino cast which is starred by Gerardo M. Velasquez, Justin Rodriguez, Michelle Magallon, Ulysses Montoya, Naome Antoinette, Alessandra Manon, and more. This was first released in March 2018 during the Houston Latino Film Festival and became available in the United States in November 2019. This time, to reach a wider audience "Rich Kids" can be streamed through Netflix.

 

In a published article in Remezcla, the story all started when Matias, played by the Houston-born actor Gerardo M. Velasquez, breaks into a mansion of Los Rico's property with his friends and his family. They spend a day in the private property and pretended to be rich and lived with fantasies. It's a day that they never expected to happen. 

This is not just simply a film for entertainment purposes, but also talks about the real-life problems of Latinos and Afro-Latino youth who are displaced in South Houston. When Matias and his friends enjoyed swimming in the pool and use the clothes in the mansion's wardrobe to feel how it is to be rich, reflect the dreamlike scenario of Latinos and Afro-Latinos who are struggling in many parts of the world.

In the previous articles of Latin Post, accessible and affordable housing is still the number one growing concern of Latinos living in the United States along with equal opportunities for jobs and healthcare. It is not surprising anymore why this drama caught the attention of many viewers most especially the Latino community and grabbed different awards and nominations in different film festivals since it was released in 2018. 

This is a movie that everyone should watch to understand the problems and struggles that Latino youths and their families are facing every day. The adversities they have are things that everyone should be sensitive to because these are just a few of the problems that they encounter every day.

Now that the movie can be streamed through the largest online video streaming platform in the world, Netflix, it is now possible that this will reach a wider audience not only in the United States but also in Latin America. It is estimated that there are more than 31.4 million Netflix customers in the region according to the Latin Post.
