All 50 states in the U.S. have positive cases of COVID-19. West Virginia became the 50th state to have a positive case of the virus as announced by Governor Jim Justice on Tuesday.

COVID-19 cases in the United States continue to increase and the death toll also continues to rise day by day. This is a very serious health issue and everyone is now obliged to cooperate with the government.

Recently, Trump's administration released strict guidelines like social distancing and avoiding mass gatherings, in an attempt to flatten the curve. Following this, different states in the country also released their own guidelines in accordance with the guidelines of President Trump.

The tally is expected to increase in the days to come if social distancing, avoiding mass gatherings, and some guidelines are not followed. It seems that the U.S. will be the next Italy if this pandemic continues in the country.

Local officials said that the actual number of cases is significantly higher compared to the reported data. There are still some who remained not tested and undetected despite the symptoms that they are showing. There are two reasons for this problem. First is the delay of testing kits and second is the restrictive diagnostic criteria as to who gets tested and gets not.

Most or half of the confirmed cases occurred in Washington State, California, and New York. This situation prompted the state governors to declare states of emergency. Through this, they can free up funds allocated for a crisis such as this to help communities who continue to battle COVID-19.

Here is the break down of deaths in the United States:

  • 12 deaths in New York
  • 9 in California
  • 5 in Florida
  • 4 in Louisiana
  • 3 in New Jersey
  • 2 in Virginia
  • 2 in Indiana
  • 1 each in Colorado, Georgia, Illinois, Kansas, Kentucky, Nevada, Oregon, South Carolina, South Dakota, and Texas.

Meanwhile, 53 people died due to COVID-19 in Washington. This clearly shows that almost half the death toll in the country is in Washington.

Moreover, King County is Washington was hit the most. Some 46 people died in King County out of the recorded 53 people in the state where it belongs. Local officials have confirmed that 30 out of 46 deaths are associated with the Life Care residential center in Kirkland where the outbreak began in the country.

There is a need for strict guidelines and measures to flatten the curve. Just like in New York where Gov. Andrew Cuomo and other tri-state areas announced on Monday that they are now banning the gatherings of more than 50 persons and put in place strict measures for the restaurants, bars, and other places of recreation where mass gatherings are possible. Maryland and Washington State also followed the same.

Gov. Jay Inslee of Washington announced on Monday that he signed an order that temporarily shuts down restaurants and bars. The declaration also includes not allowing public or mass gatherings of more than 50 persons.

In an interview with Gov. Inslee, he said: "Never since World War II have we faced a situation like this. For the next several weeks, normal is not in our game plan." Gov. Inslee is referring to the most strict measures that they will take if cases of this COVID-19 pandemic continues to increase and will not subside.

It can be recalled in the previous post of Latin Post that 6 counties in the Bay Area required their residents to "shelter in place" and if anyone violates this policy there is a corresponding fine.

This is also expected to happen in New York City according to Mayor Bill Blasio. He informed the New Yorkers to prepare themselves if the city decides to require them to "shelter in place" since it is very clear that COVID-19 is a rising global pandemic.
