In the effort to alleviate the impact of the global pandemic, Rizos Curls, a Latina-owned business in Los Angeles, has launched #RizosCurlsGIVE. This multifaceted initiative allows the willing community to get involved.

What is #RizosCurlsGIVE?

News has been going around saying that Latinos and low-income communities alike are hit by COVID-19 at a level different from other communities. And this is true. As much as one might prove to be hardworking, fate is never as sweet as we want it to be.

For more than a month now, a lot of people have lost their jobs. And most of these people are those who live from paycheck to paycheck, making this time more difficult for their families than for those staying at home in a slightly more comfortable state.

Rizos Curls, the hair care brand that gives us more reasons to love curly hair, has just paved the way for us to be able to share our love and extend help to families who are in need at this time. Kicked off by business founder Julissa Prado, with a donation of $5,000, the company encourages the community to get involved and GIVE in five ways.

1. Give Money

If you have some to spare, you can send some monetary donations through these three channels:

  • Paypal: lets.give.culture@gmail.com

  • Venmo: lets-dot-give

  • CashApp: $letsdotgive

One hundred percent of the donations will proceed to low-income families in Los Angeles or farmworkers from the Delano and Bakersfield communities, for whom Lets.Give will distribute the funds. If you would like to direct your donations to the farmworkers, you would have to specify this by writing "Farmworkers" in the notes section as you send your donation.

2. Give Service

If you have some time to spare, then you can surely get involved and answer some questions from the struggling community. As most of the briefings for COVID-19 are in English, low-income families need someone to translate for them as they ask about grants and funds.

You can also help them apply for their benefits, all via phone calls, while staying safe at home. If you would like to give your service to these families, you can start by filling out this form

3. Give Education

As schools are not exceptions from quarantine orders, many students need tutors. So if you have a knack for sharing knowledge and teaching young ones, you can fill out this form and be a tutor for K-12 students in a virtual environment. If you are a student needing a tutor, fill out this form.

4. Give Goods

We already know that one of the ways to mitigate the spread of the virus is by using proper personal protective equipment. But at this time, these items appear scarce in shops and are sometimes overpriced.

So if you have some PPE and other healthcare items to spare, or if you are a seamstress looking to pass some time with your sewing hobby, Rizos Curls encourages you to donate some goods. You can do so by filling out this form. Items that are most needed are masks, gloves, hand sanitizers, Lysol wipes, antibacterial soap, alcohol pads, and thermometers.

5. Give Time

All of us have been in quarantine for more than a month now, and we understand if you are itching to get out of the house. So if you get the opportunity to go out, we encourage you to spend this time giving to the community in need and help Rizos Curls execute the cause. To get involved physically, you can fill out this form

These are the five ways to give help, but there's a sixth one--if you happen to know a family in need of any of the services from #RizosCurlsGIVE, you can contact Lets.Give at lets.give.culture@gmail.com or 310.713.7582, or you can also fill out this form.
