Many Netflix viewers felt anxious and sad after watching "American Murder: The Family Next Door," a horrifying documentary of real crime that reveals the Watts murder case's tale.

Shanann Watts and her two children, four-year-old Bella and three-year-old Celeste, were murdered in 2018 by her husband, Chris Watts, who is now spending life in jail.

But there was another part of the life of Chris that intrigued proponents of the event. Chris was in a relationship with another lady, Nichol Kessinger, before committing the hideous crime, but where is she now?

Who was Nichol Kessinger, the old mistress of Chris Watts?

Shortly before Chris' family was found dead in August 2018, Chris and Nichol started an extra-marital affair

In June 2018, the pair met at their job at the Anadarko Petroleum Corporation in Colorado. Nichol has little comprehension of the surprising behavior of Chris and has little interest in the situation.

In reality, Chris lied to Nichol when they met. He informed her that he was in divorce proceedings with his wife Shanann at the time. Also, he refrained from telling Nichol that his wife was pregnant with their third child.

Was she involved in the police investigation of Chris Watts?

Nichol called the police two days after learning Watts' real civil status. She wanted to warn the authorities that Chris Watts had regularly lied to her about the state of his family.

According to Nichol, Chris appeared eerily quiet about the whole thing. She claimed that she wanted to do whatever she could with a pregnant wife with two children missing.

Chris, according to Nichol, lied about it all. Reports, though, say that Nichol erased all Watts records from her phone before speaking with police.

Investigators had confirmed that after the murder scene, she looked for Ambrey Frey and her net worth. Frey was the former girlfriend of convicted murderer Scott Peterson when he murdered his own pregnant wife, Laci Peterson.

What did Nichol Kessinger, the longtime mistress of Chris Watts, suggest regarding the case?

Nichol listened to the police following Chris' capture and was understandably surprised at her ex-boyfriend's perpetrating abuse acts.

The girl defended everything that Chris lied about, saying what he did was not fair to any of them in the first place.

"It wasn't fair to his family for him to have an affair, it wasn't fair to me to have him lie to me and make me think that everything is going to plan," Nichol said.

She added she no longer knows who is telling the truth now.

"I'm gonna wake up every day and know that like this mom and her unborn child, and these two little girls are not around anymore, and it breaks my heart," she continued.

Where is Nichol now?

Authorities placed Nichol in a witness protection program shortly after her interview to protect her from potential damage.

In a set of taped conversations, she said her name is about to be slandered for a while. Since then, she has traveled out of Colorado and got a new name.

"I don't know how long it's gonna take to heal. But I would not be surprised if it's gonna be hard to go out in public sometimes for a couple of years," Nichol said.
