The House of Representatives passed President Joe Biden's $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill on Wednesday with a final vote of 220-211.

The COVID relief package with $1,400 stimulus checks and funding for the reopening of schools and COVID-19 vaccine distribution is now waiting for Biden's signature.

USA Today noted that the bill overcame hurdles such as numerous complaints and amendments from the chamber and opposition from the Republicans.

The bill also overcame the hurdle from progressive Democrats, who believed that too many adjustments were made to more moderate Democrats when the bill was able to pass from the Senate last Sat.

The COVID relief bill is now on its way to Biden, who will sign it into law on Friday, according to the White House.

COVID Relief Bill Passed by House

Forbes noted that the passage of the bill, known as the American Rescue Plan Act, was made possible through a legislative process called budget reconciliation.

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer supervised the effort in the Senate and Speaker Pelosi in the House. The budget reconciliation made it possible for the COVID relief bill to pass Congress despite the GOP's complete opposition and objection.

Texas Tribune reported that the massive amounts that the federal government will spend on issues not related to the COVID-19 pandemic are the basis of the Republican opposition to the bill.

The World Health Organization (WHO) noted that the latest record showed that about 28,825,174 COVID-19 cases are recorded in the U.S., with 522,469 deaths.

In a series of tweets, Vice President Kamala Harris said that Biden "promised that help is on the way, and he has been determined to keep that promise."

Harris added that the president had challenged every member of the administration and Congress to reach out to those gravely affected by the pandemic. Harris also commended Biden's efforts to inoculate all Americans alongside the passing of the COVID relief bill.

For her part, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said that "we will get to work immediately to deliver life-saving resources," which will come from the bill as soon as it is passed and signed by Biden. Pelosi also noted that help is on the way, and they will join the President in this movement.

COVID Relief Bill Provisions

The COVID relief bill has faced many amendments from the original plan that Biden introduced. Changes such as reducing the unemployment benefits from $400 to $300 and lowering the income cap for stimulus checks from the original $100,000 to $80,000.

Once Biden puts his signature on the COVID relief bill, it will satisfy different American living aspects. USA Today mentioned that aside from the $1,400 stimulus checks and unemployment aid, the COVID relief bill will also allot $30 billion to help renters and landlords affected by the weather economic losses and $50 billion for small business assistance.
