Pro Bowl linebacker Bobby Wagner will be remaining in the NFC West next season despite his release by the Seattle Seahawks.

Wagner signed a five-year contract with the current Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams as announced by the team on Thursday, according to an ESPN News report.

Sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter that the deal is worth $50 million and can be up to $65 million if Wagner reaches incentives. The financial terms were not officially disclosed.

The move was considered to be a homecoming for Wagner, being born in Los Angeles and had attended high school in California.

The Rams was in need of inside linebacker spots after they declined to tender Troy Reeder as a restricted free agent.

Other teams had their eyes on Wagner, including the Baltimore Ravens who were in the mix to sign Wagner before he decided to sign with the Rams.

The Dallas Cowboys also expressed their interest in including Wagner in their team.

Ravens on Bobby Wagner Joining The Rams

The Ravens reportedly made a competitive Wagner, who ultimately decided to join the Rams.

Ravens' star players Lamar Jackson and Marlon Humphrey shared their immediate reactions on Twitter over Wagner's decision to join the Rams, according to a Clutch Points News report.

Humphrey responded to the news with just three words, tweeting "I am upset." Meanwhile, Jackson echoed Humphrey's sentiment and replied to his teammate's tweet with an angry emoji.

Wagner has made six All-Pro teams and won a Super Bowl. His presence on the Ravens' defense would have been enough to up Jackson, Humphrey, and the team a few notches in the AFC contender rankings.

Bobby Wagner Released by Seahawks

Wagner was released by the Seahawks on March 9 in a cost-cutting move. It was done during the final year of his deal and was set to receive a $20.35 million cap hit, according to a USA Today News report.

Wagner posted a career-high 170 tackles despite missing nearly two full games in 2021 to end the seasons due to a knee sprain.

He had publicly and privately voiced his unhappiness over how the Seahawks handled his release.

Seahawks general manager John Schneider and coach Pete Carroll expressed their regret over how they communicated those plans to the former Seahawks player.

In 2020, Wagner was one of the 22 defenders named by the Pro Football Hall of Fame to the All-Decade Team for the 2010s.

Wagner joins Ernest Jones as a likely starter at inside linebacker. However, it remains to be seen who will stay on the field on third downs and obvious passing situations, according to The Rams Wire report.

In 2012, the Rams passed on Wagner, trading away from him in the second round. He even has a "Bobby Wagner Rule" in the draft, which is that one should not trade away from a player you like for the sake of collecting more picks.

Meanwhile, the Rams also traded wide receiver Robert Woods to the Tennessee Titans.
