After a successful career in Europe, Uruguayan star striker Luis Suarez is coming home. The legendary Uruguayan player posted a video on his Twitter page and announced he will be returning to where it all began, the Uruguayan team, Nacional.

Suarez previously played for several heavyweight teams in the English Premier League and the Spanish Premier League, including Liverpool and Barcelona. However, he first started his career in Uruguay with Nacional.

Over 20 years later, he will be returning to the team where he began his legendary career. He then moved to the Netherlands to play for FC Groningen in 2006. He was previously contracted to Atletico Madrid before his contract expired last summer, according to ESPN.

Suarez Decided to Re-join Nacional After Fan Clamor

The former Liverpool star's future seemed uncertain after his contract expired with Atletico Madrid. There had been much talk that former Liverpool teammate Steven Gerrard was bringing him to Aston Villa.

Major League Soccer (MLS) teams, including David Beckham's Inter Miami, were also interested. There were also reports that Borussia Dortmund also offered him a deal, according to The Mirror.

However, he ended up back home in Uruguay, playing for the first-ever professional team he has played for, and Nacional fans may have helped in the decision. During a home game earlier this month, 20,000 Nacional fans wore Luis Suarez masks and held up banners to encourage him to come back home. They also loudly chanted for his name.

A few weeks later, Suarez posted a video on social media and revealed he was going back to Nacional. He said details will be finalized and thanked fans for the love and support he and his family have received.

The Associated Press reported that he had already reached a preliminary agreement with the team. Details on the contact are still unknown as of writing.

However, Suarez did drop a few hints about his move back to South America, as he talked to the Argentinian team River Plate and their desire to win the Copa Libertadores. He said he had always wanted to win a cup in South America.

Luis Suarez's Long and Legendary Football Career

While Suarez made a name for himself in Europe, he had always been a star in South America. He is currently the Uruguayan national team's all-time leading scorer, scoring 68 goals in 132 games. He is currently considered one of the greatest strikers of his generation, with over 500 goals for both the clubs he has played with, as well as the Uruguayan National Team.

Suarez started his professional career at Nacional before going to the Netherlands, England, and, most recently, Spain. He had won several trophies across four countries at an international level. However, he has never won a cup in his home continent.
