Dwyane Wade's ex-wife claimed the former NBA star made money from their transgender daughter Zaya Wade, 15.

Siohvaughn Funches-Wade did not want her ex-husband to legally change their trans child's name due to "multiple factors" listed in court documents that Page Six got.

The author claims that Wade, 40, can make money from their child's gender change and name change with different companies through contacts and commercial deals, such as deals with Disney.

She adds, "I have concerns that [Wade] may be pressuring our child to move forward with the name and gender change to capitalize on the financial opportunities that he has received from companies."

Funches-Wade says that Wade told her during a meeting in Atlanta in April 2022 that "a lot of money had already been made" because of Zaya's "name and gender issue."

According to her, Dwayne Wade told her that he wanted to make their child famous due to gender and name change and told her that there would be endorsements/contracts that come with it.

Funches-Wade then uses the deadname of her trans daughter in the filing, claiming that "Zion," who was present at the time, stated that many companies were interested, including Disney.

Dwayne Wade Files a Petition To Change His Child's Name to Zaya Wade

In August, Wade asked the Los Angeles Superior Court to change Zion's name to Zaya legally.

At the time, he said that he notified Funches-Wade out of courtesy.

However, Funches-Wade claimed in court documents submitted on Tuesday that her ex-husband did not attempt to get in touch with or consult with her regarding Zaya's name change or transition.

Funches-Wade also claimed Wade had broken their custody agreement, and she pleaded with the Los Angeles court to dismiss the name-change petition.

Funches-Wade stated of her ex-husband in the filing that "given Petitioner's high-profile status as a professional athlete, our children's lives have been highly publicized."

She also said that Dwayne Wade has been on national television shows and in media reports about their child's new name and gender.

She was also worried that their child was being used for commercial purposes at such a young age, NBC News reported.

Moreover, she also said that she is concerned about the uncontrollable effects of media exposure, like cyberbullying, words and/or pictures of their child being taken out of context, and an unwelcome spotlight on their child.

Funches-Wade asked the court to dismiss Wade's motion until Zaya turned 18. At that time, Zaya can decide if she wants to change her "name and/or gender."

Dwyane Wade Trans Child, Zaya Wade, Talks About Her Struggles Being a Transgender

According to Yahoo, Zaya's father, Dwayne Wade, and stepmother, Gabrielle Union, have loved and supported her since coming out as gay in 2020.

However, Zaya has also spoken about her difficulties battling with online bullying and harmful beauty advice.

"As a trans person, once I came out, there was a lot of hateful comments about how I should grow my hair out long or fit into a certain version of femininity, even though that's not true at all," Zaya said in a joint interview with Union in May for the Dove Self-Esteem Project.

"That kind of advice is just trying to break you, but don't let it."
