An American couple from Arizona went missing in Mexico while kayaking on Thanksgiving, and the wife has been confirmed dead.

According to Fox News, Corey Allen and his wife Yeon-Su Kim of Flagstaff were kayaking with their teen daughter in Puerto Peñasco, also known as Rocky Point, Mexico, on Thursday at around 1 p.m. when winds began to pick up.

Friends and family said Allen helped their 14-year-old daughter Lux back to shore, and it was believed that he went back for his wife before they went missing. Police in Mexico then tweeted that a search for the Arizona couple was ongoing, posting a photo of the couple with the tweet.

Authorities also wrote in a follow-up tweet that the search was being conducted with reconnaissance flights from the Navy, with the Secretary of Public Security and municipal authorities from Puerto Peñasco searching by land.

Police in Flagstaff, Arizona, noted that it is aware of reports about the missing American couple. However, they do not have any direct information on the search.

American Couple From Arizona Goes Missing in Mexico

Washington Post reported that after days of search-and-rescue efforts, Yeon-Su Kim had been confirmed dead. In a statement on Sunday, the president of Northern Arizona University added that the search for Corey Allen is continuing.

Kim is a professor of forestry at Northern Arizona University, and Allen is a real estate agent. Family friend Lisa Aumack told The Washington Post that the family of the American couple said Kim's body was found near Puerto Peñasco by a local fishing boat on Sunday afternoon.

A local media outlet reported that authorities in Mexico's Sonora state had found a body resembling one of the missing parents early Sunday. However, it did not confirm that it was Kim's body.

Daily Mail reported that organizer Lisa Aumack said an air search was conducted the day the body was found through the fund worth over $54,000 raised on the fundraising account.

The GoFundMe organizer posts daily updates regarding the search efforts. On Saturday, she announced that the American couple was more than two days "overdue."

Aumack noted that volunteers have spent the last two days flying, boating, and searching overland and that there were no sightings yet.

The couple's children's location remains unknown. The American couple has two kids, Lux, a freshman at Northland Prep Academy in Flagstaff, and Pax, a college freshman in Oregon.

Aumack wrote that the unused money in the GoFundMe account will go towards their educational and miscellaneous needs. A total of $56,650 out of $100,000 had been raised as of Sunday afternoon.

Aumack described herself as Lux's "Flagstaff Grandma." She said she taught the teen how to swim as her real grandparents live outside Arizona and the country.

Three Other American Tourists Died in Mexico

Three American tourists were found dead in a Mexico City Airbnb apartment early this month. Mexican authorities confirmed that the three died from apparent carbon monoxide poisoning.

Mexican authorities found Kandace Florence, 28, of Virginia, and Jordan Marshall, 28, and Courtez Hall, 33, both New Orleans residents, dead inside their rented Airbnb apartment at La Rosita, Cuajimalpa de Morelos in Mexico City.

The three visited the Mexican capital to celebrate the Day of the Dead holiday. The death comes amid the influx of Americans and other foreigners visiting and moving to Mexico. Gas leaks have reportedly caused other dangerous incidents that involved tourists in Mexico.
