The first of four SSDI payments will be distributed in December, and it will be a day earlier than usual. Recipients usually start receiving their SSDI money based on the date of their birth, and the year they first started receiving SSDI payments.

SSDI payments are given to qualified recipients and certain family members if they are "insured." It would also be available for those who paid Social Security taxes on their earnings.

Those who are interested in receiving the payments can apply online, by phone, or in person.

The processing time for disability applications differs depending on the nature of the disability. There will also be needed medical evidence, examinations, and applicable quality reviews.

Social Security officials might contact applicants for further details or request additional documents to verify the information applicants provided.

SSDI December Payments

Social Security Disability Insurance has the same schedule as Social Security payments unless recipients have been getting SSDI checks for several decades.

The SSDI December payments have a staggered schedule. Supplemental Security Income recipients will get their COLA increase in December on different dates.

Recipients who have been receiving SSDI payments since 1997 or before should get their SSDI benefits on the third day of every month.

However, there can be exceptions, especially if the third month falls on a weekend or holiday. If that is the case, payments will be made the day before.

December will be working the same way as December 3 is on a Saturday. It would mean that recipients should be able to receive their checks on December 2.

Meanwhile, SSDI payments for everyone else are based on their birthdays.

If your birthday falls between the 1st and 10th of the month, your SSDI payments will be distributed on the second Wednesday of the month.

Meanwhile, if your birthday falls between the 11th and 20th of the month, your payment will be sent out on the third Wednesday of the month.

For those with birthdays, between the 21st and 31st of the month, payments will be given on the fourth Wednesday.

Following such a schedule would mean that the SSDI December payments would be on December 14, December 21, and December 28.

Missing SSDI Payments

The Social Security Administration started requiring payment distribution to be done through Electronic Funds Transfer in 2013 to decrease the likelihood of a check missing or being stolen.

The most common reasons that payments are missed are failure to update the SSA with a new payment account or direct deposit information or there is an eligibility issue that stops or puts benefit payment on pause.

The SSA advises beneficiaries to wait three days after the normal payment date before reporting a payment missing.

However, if your bank card or SSA-issued debit card is missing or stolen, you should report it to SSA and your banks as soon as possible.

Lost or stolen cards can be reported by calling 1-800-772-1213 or by contacting your local SSA office.
