Henry Cavill is not Superman anymore, as Warner Brothers pulled the plug on his return as the Man of Steel. After losing his role as Geralt of Rivia in "The Witcher," as well as Superman, the man dubbed "King of the Geeks" has revealed he will be doing a new project with an IP that many know he is a huge fan of, "Warhammer 40,000." He will be doing the project with Amazon.

Cavill has not been shy about his love for the popular tabletop wargame known as "Warhammer," as he is known to build, paint, and play the Adeptus Custodes, an army in the "Warhammer 40,000" setting. Since losing his job at DC as their most iconic character, Superman, many have called on the actor to pursue his passion and do Warhammer instead.

Soon, rumors started surfacing that Cavill had been talking to some bigwigs over at Amazon to work on a live-action "Warhammer" series. Now, Cavill himself confirmed these rumors via his Facebook page, and so did Games Workshop, which owns the "Warhammer" IP.

Games Workshop also confirmed that Cavill will not just be acting in the project, but also act as executive producer. This has fans excited as Cavill has been known as a huge "Warhammer" lore buff, and not just a player, having read the novels and publicly geeking out about it.

Amazon Secures Rights to 'Warhammer' IP

Games Workshop has been extremely protective of its IP and is quite infamous for not allowing others to have the rights to their property. However, with Cavill at the helm of the project, The Hollywood Reporter confirmed that Amazon has now secured the rights to adapt the popular tabletop wargame played by thousands around the world.

It is reported that they are envisioning the project to be a live-action film and TV play. So far, no writer or showrunner has been attached, but Cavill has worked with Vertigo Entertainment's Roy Lee and Natalie Viscuso to secure the rights and deliver it to Amazon.

Cavill will be the executive producer alongside Games Workshop's Andy Smillie and Max Bottrill, along with Amazon Studios.

What Is 'Warhammer 40,000?'

"In the grim darkness of the far future, there is only war." That is the tagline that many fans of the "Warhammer 40,000" IP has known and loved, be it the tabletop game or the "Dawn of War," "Space Marine," and "Battlefleet Gothic" video games.

The franchise popularized the term "grim dark," which is used to describe settings that are way less than ideal and embrace the absurdity of how extremely dark and dreary its setting is.

The IP is first and foremost a tabletop wargame, played over a battlefield with miniatures that players build and paint. Players control vast armies of miniatures and pit them against other players in a strategic battle of wits, tactics, and dice rolls.

However, while it is a tabletop game, it also has a vast series of other media, from video games like "Dawn of War" to novels like the New York Times bestselling series, "The Horus Heresy." This rich story and lore, as well as the tabletop hobby itself, has been what Cavill is fanboying about in public. Now, he will be the one tasked to bring this IP to Hollywood.
