Florida woman Arya Singh was arrested after she allegedly killed her newborn baby by throwing her into the ocean.

The remains of the newborn child were fished out of an Atlantic Ocean coastal inlet more than four years ago.

Singh was taken into custody on Thursday and was charged with one count of first-degree premeditated murder after the death of her young daughter.

Authorities called the newborn baby "Baby June" after her body was discovered in June 2018.

The autopsy showed that the newborn baby had been born alive in a "healthcare environment." However, she died very soon after birth.

The newborn baby died due to asphyxia, with the manner of death identified to be homicide.

Investigators then started an extensive search for Baby June's parents, even contacting all parents who gave birth to a baby girl in May in Palm Beach County and surrounding counties.

No leads were generated and the case went cold after a few months.

Baby June Cold Case in Florida

Baby June was found by a firefighter and was only four to seven days old at the time of her death. She was reportedly floating in the ocean for six to 18 hours.

The firefighter initially thought that the newborn baby was a doll.

Cold Case Unit identified the baby's father, who denied knowing anything about Baby June, according to authorities.

Police said that the father told them about the woman he was dating at the time who got pregnant.

Law enforcement officials then identified Arya Singh as the woman.

The Florida woman told the baby's father that she would "take care of it" and assumed that she was referring to an abortion.

Authorities then collected a sample of Singh's DNA from the trash that she threw out and started their investigation.

Singh claimed that she had no idea that she was pregnant until Baby June was born. She added that she had given birth to a hotel toilet and thought the baby was born dead.

Florida Woman Arya Singh Confessing

Arya Singh reportedly confessed to the crime after she was brought into custody, according to Palm Beach Sheriff officials.

Detective Brittany Christoffel said that the Florida woman confessed to putting the baby in the water and told authorities that she did not even realize she was pregnant until she gave birth.

Christoffel added that Singh did not know what to do with the child and just decided that she was going to dispose of the newborn baby.

The detective added that Singh appeared to be nervous and worried about her future when she was being questioned.

Palm Beach Ric Bradshaw said that men and women of law enforcement always think that they are tough and have seen it all, but he said that one sees a newborn infant "like a piece of trash," it still affects them.

The detective said that the father of the newborn baby was very cooperative. Authorities got a DNA sample from the father.
