After killing three African Americans during a racially-motivated shooting at a Dollar General store in Jacksonville, Florida, it has come out that the Jacksonville shooting gunman may have had a different target.

While it has been established that the Jacksonville shooting gunman, 21-year-old Ryan Palmeter, may have tried to shoot up the nearby historically black college, Edwards Waters University, he may have also tried to target another place.

According to The Independent, Palmeter may have tried to shoot a different store after being turned away by a campus security officer at Edwards Waters University.

Surveillance footage from the nearby Family Dollar store showed the gunman arriving there at around 12:23 PM on Saturday. He reportedly held the door open for Black customers entering and exiting but then left without doing anything else.

Jacksonville County Sheriff TK Waters noted that he previously worked at Dollar Tree, a competitor to Dollar General. He was also seen stopping at a Family Dollar in the area. This may suggest that Palmeter was targeting discount stores and settled on a local Dollar General near the university he may have tried to attack.

"We have confirmed that the shooter previously worked at a Dollar Tree store from October 2021 through July 2022 in the Oak Leaf area," said the sheriff. "Based off what we saw him stopping at a Family Dollar, him working at a Dollar Tree previously and then him going to Dollar General, that was his intent the entire time."

Audio of Jacksonville Shooting Gunman's Father Call to 911 Released

Upon discovering the shooter's suicide note and white supremacist manifesto before his racially-motivated attack, the gunman's father notified authorities, but it was too late, as Palmeter managed to kill three African Americans at the Dollar General before turning his gun to himself and committing suicide.

According to the BBC, Jacksonville authorities have now released the audio of the father's 911 call. It happened at around 1:53 PM ET, with the elder Palmeter expressing concern for his son. The audio revealed that he called 911 around 2 hours after his son left. The shooter texted him at around 1:18 PM to check his computer, where a will, a suicide note, and racist writings were discovered. This prompted the 911 call. The text was sent mere minutes after the shooter went on his killing spree.

The father also reportedly told the 911 emergency dispatcher that his son had stopped taking psychiatric medication, according to the released audio of the call.

Jacksonville Shooting Victims Remembered

The gunman killed three people during the Jacksonville Shooting, and his first victim was identified as Angela Michelle Carr, 52. She was an Uber driver who was just dropping off a passenger at Dollar General when Palmeter opened fire at her. She died inside her vehicle.

Palmeter's second victim is just 19, and he was a worker at the Dollar General named Anolt Joseph "A.J." Laguerre Jr. His father, Anolt Laguerre Sr., spoke with NBC News and lamented that his son has not "lived his life yet."

The third and final victim is Jerrald De'Shaun Gallion, 29. He was described as a devoted father and co-parent who loved his family. He leaves behind a daughter.
