Rudy Giuliani, who is currently facing mounting legal problems, is now getting sued by his own lawyer, Robert Costello, and his firm, Davidoff Hutcher & Citron LLP. The lawsuit against the former New York City mayor and Donald Trump attorney alleges that he did not pay legal fees to his lawyer, who has been representing him for a long time.

Costello and the firm represented Giuliani in various investigations, including the New York case, the Georgia case, and Special Counsel Jack Smith's two investigations. However, the lawsuit stated that Costello has not been paid yet, and Giuliani owes them nearly $1.4 million.

Costello has been Giuliani's confidant and supporter for decades. However, in a statement to CBS News, the former New York City mayor slammed the man representing him in all those big cases.

"I can't express how personally hurt I am by what Bob Costello has done," the former Trump lawyer said in the statement. "It's a real shame when lawyers do things like this, and all I will say is that their bill is way in excess to anything approaching legitimate fees."

However, Costello answered this statement, telling CBS News, "How can he take a personal affront when he owes my firm $1.4 million? For almost four years he received bills and never complained (and never paid)."

"He only said they were excessive when we told him we would sue. It's too late for that frivolous claim as he will find out in court," said Costello. "I'm sorry he took the low road here because he is feeling desperate."

According to the lawsuit, Giuliani has only paid $214,000 in his $1,574,196.10 tab accrued since signing Costello to a retainer agreement back in 2019. His last payment was made back on September 14 at $10,000.

Rudy Giuliani Begged Donald Trump To Pay His Legal Bills

Rudy Giuliani might have some idea of what Costello was going through, as he himself was not paid by a high-profile client. That client is Donald Trump, and Giuliani tried begging Trump to pay his legal fees, even flying all the way to Mar-a-Lago.

According to CNN, Giuliani and Costello traveled to Florida in late April to meet with the former president and discuss Giuliani's seven-figure legal fees. They reportedly told Trump that paying Giuliani's bills was ultimately in his best interest.

Trump, who is known for not paying his attorneys, did not seem very interested. It was Costello who made the pitch, but Trump only verbally agreed to pay but did not commit any amount or timeline. Trump did have his Save America PAC to pay $340,000 to a data vendor that was hosting Giuliani's records, but not his legal fees.

Rudy Giuliani's Lawsuit Loss in Georgia Complicates His Financial Woes

Rudy Giuliani is not just facing daunting legal bills from Costello, but he must also pay Ruby Freeman and her daughter, Shea Moss, some money after he was found liable for defaming the two Georgia election workers.

US District Court Judge Beryl Howell previously issued a "default judgment" against Giuliani, finding that he "has refused to comply with his discovery obligations and thwarted plaintiffs Ruby Freeman and Wandrea ['Shaye'] Moss's procedural rights to obtain any meaningful discovery in this case."

A trial is yet to decide how much the financially-strapped former mayor will be paying the two Georgia election workers.
