The shooting incident erupted during the early hours as crowds were dispersing from bars and nightclubs in Tampa's Ybor City neighborhood shortly before 3 AM.

The dispute, which escalated into violence, was the catalyst for this unfortunate incident, as disclosed by Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercaw.

Among the Tampa shooting death toll were a 14-year-old boy and a 22-year-old man.

Out of the 16 individuals injured, 15 sustained gunshot wounds, while one person suffered severe injuries unrelated to gunfire.

Mayor Jane Castor Blames Easy Gun Access

Tampa Mayor Jane Castor, a former city police chief, expressed her regret over the city becoming a focal point for yet another tragic shooting in the country, AP reports.

The altercation took place in an area containing numerous bars and clubs, which was historically significant for Tampa's cigar industry.

In recent years, it has been renowned for its vibrant nightlife. The incident occurred when numerous nightspots were closing, leading to a significant gathering of people nearby.

Video footage posted online captured the shocking event, with individuals in Halloween costumes socializing on the street before gunfire erupted.

This prompted a stampede, causing some to seek refuge behind metal tables and leading to police officers tending to several wounded individuals.

Chief Bercaw described the incident as a disturbance or fight between two groups, tragically involving numerous innocent bystanders.

He did not provide specific details regarding the injuries sustained by the victims transported to local hospitals. However, authorities later confirmed that most of the injured had been treated and released.

The police are actively investigating the underlying cause of the altercation between the two groups, and Mayor Jane Castor attributed the Tampa shooting to the ease of access to firearms, decrying the senseless loss of life that resulted.
