George Santos has been expelled from the US House of Representatives due to misusing campaign funds to pay for his lavish lifestyle. However, the embattled New York Republican did not rise to infamy due to alleged corruption but his continuous lies about himself.

The Republican from New York has also been caught up in numerous scandals, from scamming a veteran whose dog was dying of cancer to being a drag queen in Brazil despite him being a GOP politician to claiming to be Jewish to get Jewish votes.

George Santos' 5 Most Outrageous Lies

George Santos' lies have become so infamous that they inspired memes, Late Night talk show jokes, Saturday Night Live skits, and many more jokes. We picked five of those most infamous and outrageous lies, and they are:

George Santos Is Jewish

George Santos currently serves a district with a high Jewish population. So how can a man of Brazilian origin win them over? Claim that you are Jewish and that your grandparents fled the holocaust and somehow ended up in Brazil, a country with a large Jewish population of its own. However, soon after he won the 2022 election, it was found out that he, like many Brazilians, is Roman Catholic, and so are his grandparents, who were not born in Europe but in Brazil.

George Santos Worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup

Santos tried touting that he would make a good representative for his district not just because he was "Jewish" but also because he had experience with financial matters when he worked at Goldman Sachs and Citigroup, according to the Huffington Post. However, his lies were soon exposed when the two companies stated that he never worked for them.

George Santos Was Not a Drag Queen in Brazil

When a drag queen from Brazil outed George Santos as also being a drag queen during his time in Brazil, the congressman vehemently denied it. However, when reporters hounded him about the drag queen issue, Santos caved and continued denying it while at the same time sort of admitting that he was indeed one.

"No, I was not a drag queen in Brazil, guys. I was young, and I had fun at a festival. Sue me for having a life," he told reporters.

George Santos' Mother Died on 9/11

Among Santos' many other unbelievable claims was that his mother died during the September 11 terrorist attacks in New York, claiming that his mother, Fatima Devolder, "was in her office in the South Tower on September 11." However, according to New York Magazine, his mother was actually in Brazil when 9/11 happened and had not yet returned to the US at that time since 1999.

George Santos Was a Successful Volleyball Athlete

During his campaign, George Santos also claimed that he was a star volleyball player while at Baruch College and that he attended the school thanks to a volleyball scholarship. However, as the New York Times reported, the school denied this, with former members of its volleyball team also admitting that they did not know him. Baruch College also noted that he was not listed as part of its class of 2010, as he claimed.
