Donald Trump tried to once again deploy his "Delay Delay Delay" tactics for his porn star hush money trial, but he lost in his attempt. The trial will still happen next week, on April 15, as a New York Court of Appeals judge threw out the former president's bid to delay the trial again.

Justice Lizbeth González of the state's Court of Appeals oversaw the emergency hearing in which Trump's lawyers asked to postpone the trial indefinitely because they are trying to move it out of Manhattan. The emergency stay would have prevented the trial from starting on time and furthered Trump's strategy to delay all trials until after the election. Should Trump win, he could have his Justice Department throw out the federal cases against him.

The Trump hush money trial is the first of his four criminal trials that will happen, as all the other trials, including the Georgia election trial, the federal January 6 trial, and the federal classified documents trial, have been delayed. The trial is historic as it would become the first criminal trial of a former president in US history.

According to the Associated Press, the former president's lawyer, Emil Bove, argued that his client faces "real potential prejudice" as a defendant in "heavily Democratic Manhattan" because he is the presumptive Republican nominee. He argued that the jury selection "cannot proceed in a fair manner."

The former president has previously suggested that the case be moved to the heavily Republican borough of Staten Island, which he won in 2016 and 2020. However, it was noted that Judge Juan Merchan rejected the Republican presumptive nominee's requests to move or delay the trial as untimely.

Judge Also Denies Donald Trump Appeal To Change Venue of Porn Star Hush Money Trial

Judge Lizbeth Gonzalez also heard arguments regarding the change of venue on Monday, and according to CNN, she quickly denied the motion, meaning that there would be no further argument on the motion to change the venue.

Meanwhile, Trump's attorneys also stated that they are filing a petition that will object to Judge Merchan's gag order against the former president on the grounds of the First Amendment. However, it should be noted that previous attempts to lift gag orders against the former president have failed before, even though the gag order has been stayed, albeit temporarily, before it got reinstated.

Donald Trump's Statements on Abortion Angered Some Republicans

Meanwhile, several Republicans expressed their disappointment at their presumptive nominee after Trump avoided some questions regarding abortion, including the question of whether he would support a national abortion ban should he be re-elected.

The issue of abortion might be good for his base, but it would certainly not endear him with independent voters whose swing votes could ultimately decide the race for the White House. While Trump has embraced his role in nominating the Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade, he has since tried to skirt the issue.

In a video statement, Trump stated that there is still a tough road ahead, and instead of addressing the issue, it only inflamed both sides of the abortion debate. The AP noted that while conservatives were deeply disappointed, progressives said that he was lying as usual.
