Ed Sheeran is defending his friend Taylor Swift after the singer was seen mouthing cuss words as her ex-boyfriend took the MTV VMA stage last week.

Rumors have not cleared out yet for Swiftie. After making headlines for her acceptance speech at the Video Music Awards, in which she threw a hit at former lover and One Direction member Harry Styles, another cloud of rumors about the two continue to hover above the singer-songwriter's head. A video clip from the awards show has surfaced online showing Taylor mouthing the words "shut the f*** up" as Styles took the stage with One Direction.

Many have called the clip a clear blow at Styles after the two went on a publicized not-so good split up earlier this year. However, according to Sheeran, Swift was addressing the cuss to BFF and awards show seatmate Selena Gomez.

Us Magazine is reporting that at a meet and greet segment at Portland, Ore., the "Lego House" singer cleared out things for her friend, saying that Taylor was on a friendly banter with Gomez when the camera's panned at her as she dropped the F-bomb.

According to Ed, Gomez told the "I Knew You Were Trouble" singer that Miley Cyrus would probably win the Best Pop Video award - a category where Swift was also nominated in. In response, the blonde beauty muttered "shut the f*** up" to Selena, which MTV's camera caught on tape.

"Selena said to her 'I think Miley's gonna win the award,' and Taylor was like 'Shut the f*** up.' That's what that was," Ed explained in a video shot at the M&G.

The British singer even noted that Swift was aware of her debacle, telling her tour buddy, "I think I messed up."

Thanks to Ed, at least fans now know what the cursing was all about. Notably, it doesn't seem like there's bad blood between Swift and Styles who were seen posing for a picture together, with Sheeran in the middle of course.
