Rory McIlroy successfully won his fourth major title after a thrilling win in the 2014 PGA Tour Championship on Sunday in Louisville, Kentucky.

McIlroy, who had a one-shot lead heading into the final round, finished with a 3-under 68 to edge Phil Mickelson by a stroke to win his second PGA Tour title.

He had to sweat it out, though, as he fell two shots behind on the 3rd and 6th holes, but got back into the groove during the 10th hole with an eagle. He then got a share of the lead with a birdie on the 13th before taking a two-shot lead going into the final hole.

"It is the most satisfying," McIlroy said of his win via ESPN. "To win it in this fashion and this style, it means a lot. It means that I know that I can do it. I know that I can come from behind. I know that I can mix it up with the best players in the world down the stretch in a major and come out on top."

Rickie Fowler, who ended up third along with Henrik Stenson, said that the Northern Ireland native deserved the win, calling McIlroy as the best player in the world at this point.

"Rory played great this week, and he's been a deserving champion last three tournaments. He's playing quite good right now. Best player in the world, hands down. We'll see if we can sneak one away from him at some point," said Fowler, who finished two shots behind McIlroy.

With the win, McIlroy became the fourth player to win four major titles before turning 26 years old, joining Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, and Bobby Jones in the elite list.

"I try and put all this talk aside every time it comes up, but Tiger and Jack are two of the most successful players in our sport of all time," McIlroy said. "I'm on a nice track at the minute and I'm on a nice path. I've still got a long way to go, but to be in their company at this age is very special."
