"Va Por Ti" kicked off on Sunday night, and it wasn't just the contestants that made a splash.

The show started by introducing the team captains -- El Dasa, Dulce Maria and Jencarlos Canela -- who each performed before taking their seats.

Then, came the tough part for each mentor.

Contestants came out in groups of four to perform a song. The three mentors then had to pick one contestant, meaning one was eliminated in each round.

Each mentor ended up with seven contestants.

Vivian Mitre, who sang "La Gran Senora" by Jenni Rivera, was the first to perform and she set the bar high. Another contestant that proved to have an amazing voice was Yazaira Lopez, who sang "Creo En Mi" by Natalia Jiménez.

Contestant Stephanie Guzman did not make it through, but her touching story and rendition of "Angel" ended up winning her fans on social media, who expressed disappointment with the mentors for not picking her.

The mentors, who sat on the side, enjoyed the songs the contestants sang. They could be seen singing along to choices like, "No Me Queda Mas" by Selena and"Darte Un Beso" by Prince Royce.

In between the performances, the judges -- Alejandra Guzman, Pepe Aguilar and Larry Hernandez -- came out and performed their own songs.

Guzman also was taken by one of the contestants, Fernando Corona, who she ended up dancing with on the stage.

The hardest job of the night went to host Galilea Montijo.

She was there for the contestants, whether they just shared a sad story or had been eliminated. One contestant's grandmother sent a message, and it really struck a chord with Montijo, who explained that her grandmother was no longer around. She cried with contestants and tried to offer support.

Mentor Dulce Maria tried to remind contestants that not being picked didn't mean it was the end of their dreams.
