Very little is known about the cast of "Justice League," which will be coming out in 2017, but a number of actors are rumored to be part of the upcoming film.

One of the actors that is starting to be mentioned in a number of rumors is Benedict Cumberbatch. Over the past few weeks, his name has been linked to play the Martian Manhunter and be a half-good and half-evil character for the movie.

In the DC universe, the Martian Manhunter is also known as J'onn J'onzz and John Jones. He is a superhero from the planet Mars and the last surviving member of his race. A martian holocaust killed his wife and daughter, nearly driving him mad, until he was brought to Earth in an accident caused by scientist Saul Erdel. The character is extremely important to the franchise as he has been a member of almost every incarnation of the Justice League of America.

Cumberbatch has quickly risen to fame and he is about to get a career boost if he is nominated for the Oscar for his role in "The Imitation game." Already known for playing a diverse number of characters in such films as "Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy," "12 Years a Slave" and "The Fifth Estate," Cumberbatch has also participated in a franchise as he voiced the roles of Smaug and the Necromancer in "The Hobbit" trilogy. He has also done TV including, the playing the iconic role of Sherlock Holmes.

Cumberbatch is definitely a good candidate and the actor admits he would love to be the film. In a recent conversation with E!, he talked about his involvement in either "Batman v Superman" or "Justice League" and whether the rumors of his casting were true.

He joked, "I think Batman v. Superman is going to happen. It's a film that's being made. I'm not at liberty to say whether I'm Batman or Superman." He added, "Justice League, yeah. Maybe. Let the rumor mill run. I don't know. I mean this is like the second time I've heard these rumors. I love rumors."

Other actors who have been rumored for the film include Chris Pine for the role of the Green Lantern. The actor was Warner Bros.' first choice for the 2011 film but was ultimately not chosen. However, he may be available for the film.

Charlie Hunnam has also been mentioned in the conversation for the role of Green Arrow. The actor has been in a number of TV shows, including Sons of Anarchy, and has gained a huge following. While "Pacific Rim" could make him unavailable, there is always a possibility.

The Justice League film is likely to star Ben Affleck as Batman, Henry Cavill as Superman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Ray Fisher as Cyborg and Jason Momoa as Aquaman. All these four stars will appear in "Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice," which seems like it is setting up the Justice League film.

According to IMDb, Zack Snyder will direct the Justice League film from a screenplay by Chris Terrio.

Warner Bros. is trying to build the DC world, the way Marvel did with their superheroes. The first film to come from this series was "Man of Steel" and will be followed by "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice." The studio already has plans to release two DC films per year the way Marvel has done for the past few years. Warner Bros has plans through 2020.
