The Los Angeles Lakers have started their season 0-3 for second time in the last 35 years. This franchise has never started a season 0-4 since moving to Los Angeles.

Panic time? Maybe not just yet, but when you play in a tough Western Conference like the Lakers do, outside help could be what's needed.

Head coach Byron Scott can only do so much with this squad, and Kobe Bryant is having to shoot far too often from all over the court. Point guard Jeremy Lin doesn't have a reliable cast to pass to and the loss of Pau Gasol is showing.

Let's take a look at a few of the best free agent options for the Purple and Gold:

Ray Allen

It's a long shot, but the Lakers have to try. So far the Lakers rank 26th overall in 3-pointers made per game at just 4.7. Fortunately for the Lakers, Kobe Bryant is looking pretty good, despite playing in his 19th season. But the Lakers are going to need more than just mid range shots, offensively speaking.

The only way the Lakers will be able to convince Ray Allen to come to Los Angeles is to offer him a huge contract. The Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs and Miami Heat have shown interest in Allen as well. Allen is the greatest 3-point shooter in NBA history having made the most perimeter shots in the regular season and postseason. Allen did grow up in California.

Rashard Lewis

Rashard Lewis really has had a terrific NBA career going back to his playing days with the Seattle Supersonics. At 6-foot-10, Lewis has great length, and he has been a good 3-point shooter throughout his career. Adding Lewis would be a lot easier than Allen. Lewis has made a large amount of clutch shots in his career, including helping the Heat defeat the San Antonio Spurs in the 2013 NBA Finals.

The issue with Lewis is health. The Dallas Mavericks signed Lewis this offseason, but his contract was terminated after Lewis failed a physical. Lewis isn't ready to play right now because of rehab surgery, but signing him down the road could be a wise decision.

Jermaine O'Neal

The Lakers suffered a devastating loss in their season opener to the Houston Rockets. Losing the game was bad, but their first round pick Julius Randle fractured his right leg. Randle is expected to miss the entire season, and without Gasol, Carlos Boozer isn't able to fill the void.

Former No. 17 overall pick from the 1996 NBA Draft (same draft as Bryant and Allen) Jermaine O'Neal could be a great signing. Of course, he's past his prime, but O'Neal could be a good addition for the Lakers. Even last season, O'Neal averaged 9.9 rebounds per 36 minutes and shot 75 percent from the free throw line for the Golden State Warriors.
