A shooting at the Delaware State University has left one student wounded. Police continue to search for the assailant; however, the situation is no longer considered dangerous.

Delaware State University is located in Dover, some 50 miles south of Wilmington. The shooting happened Monday evening at around 5 p.m. near an off campus residence hall, according to Reuters.  One victim was shot and was then taken to the hospital, said Kay Sass from the Dover city administration.

According to Fox News, Carlos Holmes, a spokesman for the university, said the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries. Holmes stopped short of revealing the victim’s identity or the extent of the injuries.

Dover Police Cpl. Mark Hoffman said the school was placed in lockdown at 5:30 p.m., and the incident occurred at the Living and Learning Commons. The dorms, which were a former Sheraton Hotel, are located about half a mile north from the campus.

Though the police did not offer a description of the perpetrator and he or she remains at large, the lockdown was lifted later Monday night, according to the New York Post. The school used its Twitter account to keep students informed of the situation.

“Later that evening, we believed that our students were no longer at danger and we lifted the lockdown at approximately 7:50 p.m.,” DSU President Harry L. Williams said on the college’s website. “Our police are aggressively investigating this incident and student safety remains our paramount priority.”

The victim has been identified as male DSU student and he was transported to Bayhealth Medical Center.

Delaware State University is a historically black university with an estimated student population of around 4,100.
