PCWorld's Hayden Dingman had the opportunity to play Mortal Kombat X for an hour, and he sure seemed to love it.

Dingman notes the biggest change in the game is each character will now have three variants of themselves. The variants will give each character distinct advantages of fighting styles, depending on what the player chooses. For example, Dingman chose Scorpion, who has the Ninjitsu Scorpion, Inferno Scorpion and Hellfire Scorpion.

There is some strategy involved when choosing a variant.

"What we found in our past games is that a lot of players, even the competitive ones, sort of gravitate towards a favorite [character], but that favorite might not always be a great matchup for you," NetherRealm's Brian Goodman said. "Now we've given you a system where you stick with your favorite character, but we're giving you an option to choose a different style of play depending on the matchup."

Dingman said he thought Mortal Kombat X played a little slow as compared to the last Mortal Kombat game in 2011.

The game will have more gore than all the previous versions of Mortal Kombat. Trailers and short videos have shown the graphic fatalities and bone-crunching action gamers can expect once this game is finally released.

A new feature that is likely to engage more gamers is the Faction mode. When a gamer first boots up Mortal Kombat X, they will be asked to join a faction. Just because they join this faction does not mean they are limited to a certain fighter, however. In the faction, gamers will gain points just for playing the game and winning matches. There will be some specific bonuses and extra challenges that can earn more points. At the end of the week, factions are crowned the winners and given temporary special benefits, until someone beats them in points.

"Mortal Kombat X" will be released April 14.
