The initial trailer for the gory film "Attack on Titan" is being met with crazed anticipation.

Polygon reports it "frustratingly" boasts a short glimpse of the "human-eating titans'" time here on Earth 100 years and chronicle a period when they "gobbled up most of civilization."

In the action-packed thriller, Forbes hints those of civilization live behind huge walls in hopes of protecting themselves from all their ravenous torturers known as titans.

The movie highlights a time when humanity seems to have its guard down after not encountering any of the creatures in nearly a century. Just when some of the townspeople began to regard all the legend of the creatures as mythical that they emerge back on the prowl.

Try as they might to defend their turf, many of the soldiers ultimately fall prey to the titans, the vast majority of them in some of the most gruesome ways imaginable.

Haruma Miura stars as the main character Eren Yeager. Set to be released in August, the movie will be the first in a two-movie story. The film is directed by Shinji Higuchi and written by Tomohiro Machiyama.

According to Screen Rant, the film also stars Kiko Mizuhara as Mikasa Ackerman, Kantana Hongo as Armin Arlert, Miura Takahiro as Jean Kirstein, Nanami Sakuraba as Sasha Blouse, and Satomi Ishihara as Hange Zoe. The film is also rumored to be set to introduce a number of new performers as part of its largely ensemble cast.

"Attack on the Titan" started as a manga more than six years ago and has quickly given rise to several novels, anime and video games that are based on the popular nature of the sci-fi based series.
